Italian Dual Citizenship Information
http://www.mondotrentino.net/guida1/inglese/guidaesING.htm
Dear Mr Endrizzi,
The descendants of Italian emigrants abroad are
entitled to be immediately recognised as Italian citizens in case their
ascendants never explicitely renounced to Italian citizenship. The Italian
consulate in your area of residence should know that information. More
information may be obtained on the practical guide for Trentino people abroad,
published on the website of Trento Province Service for Trentino people abroad,
in more languages. The address is:

As for the dual citizenship, I did not attend the Province Presentation meeting on Saturday that was to address this issue. Therefore, I will refer you to Luca Dorigatti since he is more informed about the "d.c" than I am.....his E-mail address is dopi@batnet.com Also his phone # is (650) 326-7156.
I have dual citizenship, and so do most of my family members. We did it
the standard way several years ago through the "right of blood",
"jure sanguinis. When it comes to myself and my 2 brothers, we ended
going through our Abruzzese father. My cousins all went through their
Trentini parents, but their parents (like my mother) all emigrated to the States
after WWII when Trentino was part of Italy. In other words, they all used
the "jure sanguinis" to get their citizenship. A simple search
on the internet will give you a lot of information on this standard dual
citizenship procedure. For example, I just put in the keywords "italian
citizenship dual blood" and I came up with this page from the Chicago
Consulate: http://www.italconschicago.org/english/citizenship.htm.
Now, many Trentini came over when Trentino was still part of the
Austrian-Hungarian Empire. Their descendants have not been eligible for
dual citizenship in the past. With the current law in effect, they can do
so, but the deadline on applying is December of 2005. In places like South
America Trentini have flooded the Italian Consulates with requests for
citizenship. Trentini nel Mondo has recently hired a lawyer to assist
people seeking citizenship, Lara Olivetti. She reads and writes English
very well. I believe she works only one or two afternoons a week, possibly
Tuesday and Thursday. You can simply contact the Trentini nel Mondo
office to get a hold of her: info@trentininelmondo.it, phone 0461-234379
and fax 0461-230840.
The San Francisco Consulate has people that can help you. Diego Marini, who
spoke at our convention, Anna Maria Stone, who handles citizenship, and Silvia
Raviola, who handles the San Jose Consulate office and advertised in our
convention booklet. Neither Diego nor Silvia are experts in citizenship,
and Anna Maria Stone just recently took over the position which was vacated for
several months. She told me she is at least 6 months behind in work and
can't give immediate attention to issues as she would like to.
Having said all that, I recommend you approach your immediate consulate office
regarding citizenship.
I hope this all helps. I'm sorry we dropped the ball and did not get the
citizenship info to you and others. Diego Marini was supposed to give it
to someone at the convention for the purpose of photocopying, but at the moment,
it's a mystery as to who has that paperwork.
